is the real difference between licensure and certification? I will be
explaining this question throughout my paper using the article By Donald A.
Balasa, JD, MBA AAMA Executive Director and Legal Counsel. In the article it
explains that licensure may be more of a mandatory act. Which may mean that this
act will be covered by the government more like at a state level. This will also
mean that it is not legal to ever work without license. A certification would
be a voluntary act. This will mean that a person doesn’t need to be certified
to practice. Some states have started their own certification for medical assistants.
are many things people may not know about medical assistants. A CMA is a credential
that represents a medical assistant who has been certified by the Certifying
Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants. There is no state that
has issued medical assistants to be licensed. A RMA is something that will be
given by an organization.
are also two national entities. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied
Health Education Programs. This will authorize medical assisting programs in
both public and private postsecondary institutions throughout the United States
that help people get ready for entry into the workforce as a medical assistant.
Then the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education
Schools. The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools recognize
postsecondary institutions and programs preparing individuals for entry into
the medical assisting profession. This option will be a voluntary option. There
are some benefits for students who graduate with the Accrediting Bureau of
Health Education Schools. The students will get recognized. Also, there will be
eligibility for credentials. Graduation from both entities are eligible to take
thee RMA exam offered by the American Medical Technologists.
reading this article I learned many things that I wasn’t aware of before. Some
of the few things were the difference between licensure and certification. Also,
what a CMA and a RMA is. As well as the entities for medical assistants. This article
really helped me to understand what I would like to achieve when I become a
medical assistant soon.
