B Dubois argument is considered strongminded in order for the colored community to uprise against the obstacles, which is important because all blacks want to be leaded by someon e who has knowledge and would make the right decisions for the AfricanAmerican race. Booker T. Washington uses ethos to support his idea that blacks and whites have to work together in order to stay economically stable , also blacks have to accept disc rimination and concentrate on upraising themselves through hard work and material prospe ity.

In “The Atlanta Compromise” he stated ” To those of my race who depend on bettering their condition in a foreign land or who underestimate the importance of cultivating friendly relat ions with the Southern white man, who is their nextdoor neighbor, I would say: “Cast down your bucket where you ar‚’” cast it down in making friends in every manly way of the pe ople of all races by whom we are surrounded. Cast it down in agriculture, mechanics, in comm erce, in domestic service, and in the professions. This is an example of ethos because his belief s is that black eople who are struggling to get on their feet should push all racism to the si de and join with the whites in order for them to not maintain the poor classmanship the received after slavery.

On the other hand, W. E. B Dubois believed that the Talented Tenth” meant that one in ten black men becoming leader of their race in the world through continuing their education , writing books, or becoming directly involved in social change. In “the Talented Tenth” speech, D ubois stated ” The Negro race, like all races, is going to be saved by its exceptional men. The problem of ducational then, among Negroes, must first of all deal with the ‘Talented Ten th”. It is the problem of developing the best of this race that they may guide the Mass awa y from the contamination and death of the worst” Ethos is presented in this piece of evid ence because he is saying that one will always have savages in a race which will contaminate the rest of the people in a society, but deal with the people that want to change and seek education to change lives.W.

E. B Dubois ethos is the strongest because he uses the credibility that he be lieve that young black men who are educated to change the lives of the ones who are strugglin and create a better class system for the colored people. Washington uses logos to support his belief that AfricanAmericans should kee p their mind set on creating ways to be economically stable. In “VV. E. B Dubois Critiqu es Booker T.

Washington” it says ” Mr.Washington distinctly asks that black people give up, at least for the present, three things, first political power, second, insistence on civil rights, thi rd, higher education of negro youth, and concentrate all their energies on industrial edu cation. ” This represents logos because Booker is trying to persuade the black people that t ey should take their minds off of running in office, demanding civil equal rights and getting better education for the young black children; instead give the whites what they want hoping it will hel p them raise to a better class position.Different from Mr. Washington, Dubois uses logos to sup port his claim using ‘The Talented Tenth”.

It stated ” On this foundation we may build bread winning, skill of hand and quickness of brain, with never a fear lest the child and man mistake the means of living for the object of life, three tasks lay before me; first to show from the past that the Talented Tenth s they have risen among American Negroes have been worthy of leadership; secondly to show how these men may be educated and developed; and thirdly to show their rel ation to the Negro problem. This shows that he has a actual path to build an empire and make better changes for those who want to do better in life and become a leader for their people. Afte r all , W.

E. B Dubois logos was stronger because he had a more visionable goal that may h ave persuaded one as to why they may want a college educated student to lead them in the right direction to reach first class citizenship.
