On top of that, the six periods of music are categorized by the western art music. Firstly, the Medieval Era is the longest and most remote period of musical history, it almost consists almost thousand years of music. Secondly, the Renaissance Period includes the Western music history from 1400 to the beginning of the 1600’s. This period is where the humanism rebirth and revival of culture in forms of art and music in Europe. The word ‘Renaissance’ defined as ‘rebirth’ and ‘reconstruction’. Thirdly, the Baroque Era describes the period of European music between 1600 until 1750. The word ‘Baroque’ is a Portuguese word meaning ‘a pearl of irregular shape’ this world is used to show the strangeness and abnormality. Then, the Classical Era. The melodies of the Classical Period were more compact although it only lasts for 70 years. Also, the Romantic Era. This period shows huge changes where all the melodies sing and construct the lyrics in a romantic way. Lastly, the Modern Era is also known as the 20th century Era. Twentieth-century music can be described as being more refine and it is hard to define in musical style. (Robert Sherrane, n.d)Tuomas Eerola (2012) states that communication of emotions by music have great attention and has been studied by many researchers in predicting the emotions suggested or invoked by the music. This research shows the listeners’ self-reports of the emotions expressed by music from different genres within Western music. The researchers claim that emotions that perceived in music rely more on musical features than felt emotional experiences. There are three types of emotion models that have been employed in the field which is discrete, dimensional and music specific. According to discrete emotional model, it commonly used in non-musical contexts, emotion can be obtained from limited number of universal and with basic emotion such as fear, anger, sadness and happiness. Then the two-dimensional circumplex model, which is the most representative model, it proposes that all affective stated arise from two independents. For example, it is unable to represent the mixed emotions and several alternatives. In music specific, there are acoustic, perceptual and musical aspects that underlie the communication of emotion in music. For instance, chosen by the researcher was from empirical studies, it based on soundtracks and used to highlight how musical features can be extracted, validated and connected to emotions.
