How often do people go on the world wide web? In today’s living style the internet is a major part of who we are.
Our world would not be where we are now without the internet. The network that our generation uses if for free. But in other nations, they have to pay for their internet just to have and to be on it. Net neutrality is protecting us from having to pay for our rights, which is the freedom of the press and speech. In the future, there is a chance we might not have what we call a “free market” anymore if we lose net neutrality.
Net neutrality is a necessity that we need in today’s society. We need this because of economic recovery and prosperity, social justice, and for our rights in the constitution. The following paper will explain why we need net neutrality in the world we know and love now.
First of all, net neutrality has helped our nations in many ways. One major way is for economic recovery and prosperity. Economic recovery is a phase of a business company in which is regains and overachieve the employment levels. In other words that means this would be when a business has reached the highest point.
Economic prosperity is when the state of the business is thriving in money and in everything else. Our sociality today would not be the same online without net neutrality. This has helped businesses thrive. Since the internet is an open market (for now it is), businesses could put on the internet to help or spread what the company could do you the society. This also helps businesses revolutionized. This means that it had allowed the companies to make faster money to pay the workers and the way the service is used. This is also why we need net neutrality to say is because the economic recovery and prosperity have helped out our internet economy with higher-speed connections when we as a nation needed it the most. In 2009, when President Obama was still in office, he had a bill passed to protect net neutrality in the USA.
With this bill in place, Obama’s bill forced the government to require $4.7 billion in the federal grants for higher-speed internet for the USA. With this bill, it means that our money that we pay, which is the taxes we pay every year, can’t be used by other powerful companies. These powerful companies could have used the money to filter the way we use the internet. The money instead come straight back to us to have faster internet and many more (Karr ).
In our society today, we need net neutrality to save and help businesses grow and thrive. We also need it to offer us, as citizens of the US, the same money choices that the government has over our money. Another main point of why we need net neutrality is for social justice. “Social justice is a policy-making theory that tries to ensure that all members of society are treated fairly and that all have the same opportunities to partake of and share in the benefits of society,” Said by William Dudley in an article he wrote entitled “Social Justice”. With other meanings, social justice is equality on the online resource. Everyone that uses the internet is equal to each other than they are in real life. No matter was race, ethnicity, income, or sex the user is. Also, there are no “classes” online that name us too.
No upper, middle, or lower class to put us on the web. Humans in the world can go on there with knowing that they can be treated equally. If we lose net neutrality that will change. Paying the right to have internet would classify us on online which was ruin social justice that we have so little left. Social justice can also engage opportunities in online. For instance, online colleges, skills for school and everyday life, and many others keep our lives the same.
Since our daily lives are becoming dependent on technology, we could use this to our advantage. If a grad from a high school can’t afford to go to a real college, they could just stay home and use the internet to get the college education they want. Social justice is one out of many reasons why we need net neutrality.
