first wealth is health.  However, Are you
sure this wealth is safe and lasting long?
Nowadays, Cancer becomes a burden of the whole world, especially in poor
and developing country. In Viet Nam, the statistics of Union For Cancer Control
estimated that there are about 94,000 people died because of cancer. Lung
cancer is the most popular cancer affecting both males and females. It is the
leading cancer of males and a major cancer of females. However, we could avoid
this serious disease absolutely and we also have many ways to fight with it. Thus,
this paper base on secondary data , will discuss about facts, symptoms, causes
and treatments of lung cancer

Discussion of findings

What is lung cancer?

to Mayo Clinic (2017), lung is a significant organ in our body, includes two
parts: right lung and left lung. Lungs support us breathe. Air comes through
the mouth to the lung. Here, the air would be sponged, get rid of carbon
dioxide to hold oxygen. After that, oxygen would be given into blood vessel to
go throughout the body

to “what you need to know about lung cancer” (2012), normally, cells in lungs
and other parts of body grow and separate to form new cells if they are needed.
When normal cells become old or are damaged, they die and new cells would
replace. However, this process goes wrong sometimes. New cells grow without the
need of the body or some cells still remain and they are not destroyed in
process. The buildup of extra cells often forms a large of problem called a
development or tumor. At that situation, lung cancer cells can spread by
breaking away from a lung tumor. They go throughout blood vessels or lymph
vessels and cover all body. Gradually, abnormal cells develop at other organs
in body such as kidneys, brain or heart. As

to M. Ratini (2016) lung cancer is divided into two types: small cell lung
cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This division is based on
appearance of the tumor cells. Firstly, SCLC accounts for 10%-15% of lung
cancers. It has close relationship with cigarette smoking. SCLCs metastasize
rapidly to other organs in the body and most are discovered after spreading
extensively. Secondly, NSCLC is the most common, with 85% of all cases. Based
on different type of cells founded in tumor, NSCLC is divided into three main
types: Adenocarcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and large cell carcinomas. According
to Cleveland Clinic (2014), there are also other cancers such as small cell
lung cancer, rare cancers of the chest or mesothelioma.

2.2 What are symptoms of lung cancer?

to Cleveland Clinic (2014), lung cancer experiences three main stages. At two
first stages localized and regional, the cancer is confused and spread to lymph
moles. At third stage of lung cancer called distant it spreads to other parts
of body. According to The World Health
Organization, about 85% lung cancer patients discover this disease at last
stage of lung cancer.  It takes several
years for lung cancer develop until the disease is advanced. However, most of
people don’t recognize its symptoms because they are very common such as:

Coughing, especially it stay persistent, becomes intense or even
coughing up blood
Shortness of breath
A change in colour or volume of sputum
Changes in your voice
Harsh sounds
Headaches, bone or joint pain
Loss of weight
General sickness
Bone problems without accidents
Facial swelling
Shortage of blood

to Deborah (2017)

signs seem very common. In particular, at first stages, these are unclear till
cancer becomes more seriously. That is reason why almost patients suffer from
bad status at last stages, which makes treatment impossible

2.3. What are causes of lung cancer?

cancer is one of the most serious diseases that still not have drugs to cure
absolutely or vaccine to against. The risk of lung cancer may increase due to a
number of factors. Risk factors for lung cancer include:

Smoking: as a report by Martin (2017) smoking is strongly
correlated with lung cancer, with about 90% of lung cancer growth because
of tobacco using.  Tobacco smoke
holds over 7,000 chemical compounds and many of them are main causes of
cancer or carcinogenic. Moreover, if you do not smoke, passive smoking
also can increase the risk of developing cancer because the smoke also
contains a large of toxic substances. This below chart shows the link
between cigarette smoking and lung cancer.

Centers for disease control and prevention (2010)

The chart depicts process about serious effect of smoking to the body.
People can see that smoking with toxic substances such as carcinogens
persistent develop over a long period to become cancer

Hazardous substances:  radon
gas is the most dangerous substances. Radon gas exists in nature as a
decay product of uranium. According to Melissa (2016), 12% of lung cancer
deaths are consequences from gas and about 21,000 lung-cancer-related
deaths. Radon gas can cover the soil and enter our home through some ways
such as drain, pipes, or other openings. there are many other substances
leading to lung cancer such as asbestos, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, coal
products, nickel compounds, mustard gas and so on. These could exist
around chemical factories, nature environment or even air pollution
Spreading of lung cancer through generations: as Center for disease
(2017), it is easier to suffer from lung cancer if there is survival of
lung cancer cells in the body. Especially, when smoking or live and work
at danger substances.

2.4. What are effects and treatments
of lung cancer?

cancer is serious disease. According to Hoang Dinh Chan (2015), about 90%
patients have died after a year from diagnosed with lung cancer. In fact, the
development of lung cancer lasts in a long period but the first symptoms is
similar to other common diseases. That is reason why 80% patients diagnosed at
last stages (Luu Van Nam, 20215). At last stages, tumor cells develop quickly
and spread to others organ. This affects to the whole body, the health increase
rapidly. Patients will feel tired and painful. In addition, their family is also
worried and spends a lot of money for treatment
