Guidance and Counselling Services Students’ life is getting complex day by day . Guidance is needed to help the students for optimum achievement and adequate adjustment in the varied life situations.Guidance and counseling programme needs to be introduced in universities to meet the varied needs of the educational system, administration, and students. (Marian Roy 2012). As stated on SLSU.EDU.PH 2015, the Guidance Center shall assist the students to develop their problem solving skills and enhance individual/group psychological growth for social and community responsibilities.The Office Function is that Guidance Center shall:a. Assist the Director for Student Services in the formulation and implementation of policies, rules and regulations, program and activities pertaining to guidance counseling and testing.b. Provide students psychological growth for social and community responsibilities.c. Conduct examination for admission, research, case study, student’s inventory and other related functions.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Head of Guidance Center shall:a. Implement policies, rules, programs and projects relative to guidance counseling and Testingb Plan, manage, and supervise guidance counseling and testing services.c. Purchase, develop, and apply needed instruments for testing.d. Gather and disseminate informative materials on career and vocational preferences and provide periodic career educational programs and activities.e. Promote the significance of guidance and conduct counseling interview and testing for students availing, of the services.f. Help students develop self-understanding and skill in decision making on problems confronting them.g. Provide specific work tasks of personnel for clear, objective and measurable evaluation.h. Conduct research on human behavior as means to effective counseling services.i. Help improve working relations among faculty members, students and school personnel.j. Conduct periodic orientation for new students.k. Provide faculty members training to serve as counselors.l. Be responsible and accountable for his/her office.m. Perform other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by higher authoritiesIn addition to that, Guidance and counseling is a very important program in schools. it is the process by which students are given advice on how to deal with emotional conflicts and personal problems both in school and how to incorporate the same in their daily life, These are the following of some benefits given by the guidance and counseling: First, students are given solutions on how to deal with psychological problems which might affect their studies. Through this, the students are able to develop problem solving skills which to an extent helps them deal with particular issues surrounding their lives. Second, students are advised on how to cope with different situations facing them in their school life. For instance, on how to relate with their peers. Third, it helps to shape a student’s behavior and instill discipline in students. Students who are guided and counselled in a right way tend to know what to do and how to do such things. Fourth, students get to learn how to live in harmony with others in the school community. In so doing, they also learn to appreciate the people around the and come to harmony with their environment. Fifth,it bridges the gap between the students and the school administration,since can channel their problems through guidance and counseling office. Lastly, students get comprehensive pieces of advice on careers,courses and jobs which enables them to have an informed choice on what to do after school. It just not allows students to talk about various things which they feel uncomfortable talking about with their parents which include things like drug abuse but also allows the students to become better people because they are taught by the counselors about how to behave in a proper manner. Moreover, it enables students undergoing difficulty in their lives have a good place to ask for questions and clarity from the guiding and counseling office. (Vann, 2013)
