BOOM! CRASH! The noises the soldiers and civilians heard at 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941 the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, and was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese planes and had a huge affect on the United States joining WW2. After Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. It caused the US to go to war with Japan, The US was mainly upset because the USS Arizona was destroyed, many innocent lives were lost, and it dragged the US into war.First off, The USS Arizona was possibly the most important ship at the Naval Base in Hawaii. This ship was also one of the most heartbreaking losses after the bombing of pearl harbor.  The USS Arizona had many sets of brothers aboard. The authors at state, “Twenty-three sets of brothers died aboard USS Arizona. There were 37 confirmed pairs or trios of brothers assigned to USS Arizona on December 7, 1941, Only 14 pairs of brothers made it out alive. There were 15 survivors out of a total of 77 people” ( This quote shows how heartbreaking this bombing was and how it affected many innocent families who had children in the USS Arizona. The USS Arizona impacted the area around it when it was underwater. The authors also write, “Fuel continues to leak from USS Arizona’s wreckage. On December 6, 1941, Arizona took on a full load of fuel—nearly 1.5 million gallons—in preparation for its scheduled trip to the mainland later that month…Nearly 70 years after its demise, Arizona continues to spill up to 9 quarts of oil into the harbor each day”( This quote shows the aftermath of the bombing and how it not only affected the people nearby by also the wildlife and the harbor. The USS Arizona still leaks fuel which travels all around in the water and can harm the wildlife and anything nearby. To sum this paragraph up, this bombing affected all the men aboard the USS Arizona, innocent families and people lost lives, and finally hurt the wildlife and city around the bombing. Also the impact of this attack, this bombing affected the sailors, citizens and the whole United States. It put the nation in a state of mourning. Almost everybody was devastated whether they knew people there or not. The authors at write, “Nearly 20 American ships and more than 300 airplanes. Dry docks and airfields were likewise destroyed. Most important, 2,403 sailors, soldiers and civilians were killed and about 1,000 people were wounded.” ( This quote shows, The rebuilding the US Naval base had to do after losing all of their Weapons and Ships. It also shows how much of impact Japan made, but it also drove US into war. The US was furious about the innocent lives lost as well as the ships lost. The authors also write, “Almost half of the casualties at Pearl Harbor occurred on the naval battleship USS Arizona, which was hit four times by Japanese bombers and eventually sank. Among the 1,177 crewmen killed were all 21 members of the Arizona’s band, known as U.S. Navy Band Unit (NBU) 22…At no other time in American history has an entire military band died in action”( This quote shows, how innocent lives like band members and civilians were lost which made the US more and more furious and drove them to war.  To sum this paragraph up, The bombing of Pearl Harbor had a significant impact on the US Naval base and almost ruined the Pacific Fleet, and made the US very mad at Japan and driven to even go to war with them. Finally US entering the war, The bombing of Pearl Harbor triggered the US into entering World War II. The authors at write, “After the Pearl Harbor attack, and for the first time during years of discussion and debate, the American people were united in their determination to go to war”( This quote shows, it was unanimous decision, the US was ready to go to war with Japan and ready to fight with the Allied Powers. The war was already in action 2 years in, but that did not stop the US from joining it. The authors at write, “On December 8, Congress approved Roosevelt’s declaration of war on Japan. Three days later, Japan’s allies Germany and Italy declared war against the United States. For the second time, Congress reciprocated, declaring war on the European powers. More than two years after the start of World War II, the United States had entered the conflict.” ( This quote shows the US did not hesitate to join the Allied Powers in World War II. Hitler did not know that Japan was planning on surprise attacking the US. The author Paul Burtness writes, “Hitler, unaware that Japan was planning to attack Pearl Harbor and still hoping to avoid war with America” (Burtness 20). This quote proves, The Axis Powers were trying to avoid War with the US so it would give them the advantage.  To sum this paragraph up, It was a unanimous decision for the US to go to war against the Axis Powers and it helped the Allies because the Axis Powers were not planning on bringing the US into War. In Conclusion, after Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. It caused the US to go to war with Japan. The US was mainly upset because the USS Arizona was destroyed, many innocent lives were lost, and dragged the US into war. This was important because it brought the US into the war and they helped the Allied Powers to come out victorious. The war left a major impact on the world after many people began to realize how harshly groups people were treated by Hitler.
