As the medical world is expanding, more and more cures and treatments are being prevailed by doctors and medical scientists in order to treat patients that suffer physical and mental injuries or problems. Even though these methods are made public to the people of the world and are found in many countries, some religions and cults prohibit and do not allow medical treatment in general. This is a social situation that does not allow some people to cure their illness or injuries thus making them suffer and eventually die. One of these injuries is cervical Spinal stenosis, which is cured through cervical laminoplasty. In this essay, the problem and global factor will be introduced and elaborated on, and the treatment and cure to this injury will be analyzed for its advantages and disadvantages alongside a conclusion including an opinion on the situation. The Spine is vital for human survival, it provides the human with structure and support, it is the reason we are able to move freely and bend with flexibility. the spine is also a protective case for your spinal cord which is a column of nerves that connect to the brain, the spinal cord sends signals to our brain which allows us to control our movements. and without the spinal cord, our organs will not function the way they should. having a healthy spine is necessary for an active lifeSpinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal, and spinal stenosis most commonly occurs in two parts of the spine, lumbar spine and the cervical spine. as the canal narrows on either part of the spine it interferes with nerve function and can cause pain in the spine or in other parts of the body. Laminoplasty is one of the surgeries that are taken into consideration when a patient is diagnosed with cervical or lumbar spinal stenosis. the surgery reshapes and re positions the bones to relieve pain and pressure on the spinal nerves. the Greek term plastos (to mold) from the surgery’s name indicates that the lamina is re-positioned rather than removed (laminectomy). This disorder is caused by aging and is most common in people over 50 years of age.Laminoplasty is a surgery that provides space for the spinal cord and nerve roots to relieve the painful pressure of spinal stenosis. before the surgery anesthesia is issued to the patient. and the patient is placed in a face down position. the surgery starts with an incision on the back of neck to safely access the cervical spine. on one side of the spine he carefully cuts halfway through each lamina to create vertical grooves. and on the other side he fully cuts through each lamina allowing the grooves to function like hinges which allows the vertebrae to act like a door. this will remove any excess pressure on the spinal cord and the nerve roots. the surgeon must examine the spinal canal for any other source of compression. small wedges of bone graft material are inserted to hold the bone open to allow the reconstruction of the spinal canal. the incision is then closed and bandaged.
