Argumentative discipline Essay

However in this present time it would be welcomed to record a figure of that amount or o record no murders at all compared to what we are facing today. In 2013 that number has almost tripled reaching to a staggering one hundred and twenty (120) murders for that year, which equates to a 240% increase in 10 years. These frightening changes bring us trying to determine the root of the breakdown of core values, and the impact of havoc it is wreaking on our country.

Throughout history, society has looked upon the male as the breadwinner: the one expected to work, discipline, and support the family. The mother has been viewed as the nurturer: the one to stay home and raise the children. As women sought employment, their children were left to the care of babysitters, day care workers and in some cases children left to look after themselves. Because society has redefined the role of a mother to be one who is an important element in the workforce, the loss of the mother in the home has led to the decline of the family unit, and thus, to society.

As single parenting increased and the presence of the father decreased, it can be asserted that the lack of discipline began to creep in. Notwithstanding the point of many single parents, mothers in particular have been able to foster DOD morals, principles and discipline in their homes; the arguable point is that due to the increasing absence of both parents in the home is creating a breathing ground for the breakdown of the standard of the family core represented in days of old.

This forfeiture has created a generation for whom social morals and values are not as important as they once were. Perhaps this is due to a working mother being absent from the home where she is unable to personally instill these ethical standards in her children, thus leaving her children to receive their value system from strangers. Another look on the lack of discipline is the actual physical discipline that is absent from homes, schools and society at large.

The days that it took a “village to raise a child” are a vague and distant memory. There was a time when it was accepted and common place to use the rod of correction has seemed to vanish. There was a keen sense of propriety when punishment in school was the order of the day, without fear of retaliation from students and parents alike. Also when corporal punishment was very present and acted as a deterrent to crime. All of these symbols of maintaining a sense of structure has now deteriorated and evaporated into thin air.

One of the greatest sources that can be turned to in regards to how actual child rearing should be approached is The Bible. Many of us grew up on its lessons and passages of scripture that spoke about the steps needed to raise a child and a nation. If these steps are left unchecked we are bound to continue to face the obstacles of producing mannerly children and adults and continue to head in the direction of a lawless nation. Proverbs 13:24 states “He that sparest his rod teeth his son: but he that love him chasteness him betimes.

When parents neglect to reprimand a child for his behavior, this leads to the beginning of the breakdown or core values; Proverbs 29: 15 states “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringing his mother to shame. Another common passage of scripture that relates to using a means of discipline to steer children on the right path is found in Proverbs 23: 13, which states “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beats him with the rod, he shall not die.

Society truly does begin at home”, so in order to return to a culture with better morals and values, the importance of the role of the stay at home mother should be restored. In this way, stay at home mothers can improve society. Also actual discipline needs to be re- implemented in the schools and society in order for our country to achieve the once docile life of yesteryear. After reviewing the steady increase of crime, unruly children and a total disregard for principles, submit that the lack of discipline has most definitely contributed to the change of today’s generation.
